Sam Lusk – Owner/Head Coach

Classes – CrossFit / Engine / Olympic Lifting / Competitors Club

Accreditation – CrossFit Coach Level 2

Samantha Lusk is a Los Angeles based Level 2 CrossFit coach, personal trainer and owner of Strange CrossFit. Born and raised in north Texas, Samantha’s athletic career started at age fourteen as a walk on to the Sherman High School swim team (competing in the 50m and 100m freestyle and the 100m backstroke). Although starting later than most in the sport, Samantha received the MVP award her sophomore, junior and senior year. In 2002 Samantha was recruited out of swimming to join the University of Texas Division One Women’s Rowing Team. She received an athletic scholarship for her participation. Coached by Olympic gold medalist Carie Graves, Samantha’s team won the Big 12 Championships 4 years in a row (2002-2006) and her boat competed in the NCAA National Championships in 2002 and 2003. After graduating from college in 2006, Samantha traveled to Los Angeles and continued her athletic career by participating in various sprint triathlons and running the 2010 LA Marathon.

In March of 2013 Samantha began her CrossFit journey. It took her fitness to a level that previously she would have not thought possible. The constantly varied nature of CrossFit challenged her in a way that the other sports she had competed in did not. Departing from her career in film, Lusk decided to fully immerse herself in the world of fitness. Now a full time CrossFit trainer, competitor and box owner, it is Samantha’s desire to share her passion for CrossFit with all her clients and push them to achieve goals they would never have otherwise attempted. In 2018 she qualified in the Elite women's team division for the acclaimed Wodapalooza fitness festival in Miami, FL. In April of 2018, Samantha and business partner Shane Wilson opened Strange CrossFit in North Hollywood, CA. Samantha's competitive goals are to qualify for the Masters 35-39 division in the Reebok CrossFit Games, as well as qualifying a team to the West Regional.

Jacob Buckenmyer

CrossFit / Strongman

CrossFit Coach Level 1

Jacob started his fitness journey as a high school athlete, where he was an all state swimmer for four years. Later, in college, he discovered CrossFit as a way to stay fit and look good for the camera. What he didn’t know, was that he’d fall in love with the sport for so many other reasons and has never looked back since. Within his first year of CrossFit, he decided he wanted to help others find this passion too and became a coach. He has since had the opportunity to coach at a handful of boxes, both in Missouri and California and still loves helping other people achieve their goals on their journey to health and become better athletes.

Ira Zabolotnaya

CrossFit Level 2 / USAW Sports Performance Coach

I was born in Ukraine. And I was a fitness fan from the very school age. I did bodybuilding as an amateur for years.  But biggest changes came into my life after I started Crossfit in 2013. I was simply inspired with free weights and high intensity of Crossfit. Because I new from experience that it was the best way to make a difference with body. Before that moment I trained to have a nice look. But soon things changed. It turned out that bodybuilding type of body prepared me for nothing. I was hooked by Crossfit and constant overreaching of our limits. I followed this way. And I truly believe that Crossfit can change our whole life. Not only by training our physical preparedness. But also by changing our mind and spirit. By constant evolving into a new, better human race.

Amanda Counts

Flex RX

MobilityWOD: Mobility and Movement / Flexologist—Stretchlab / CrossFit Level 1 / USA Weightlifting Sports Performance Coach

I've been an athlete since I was 3.5 years old. It all started with soccer and dance but I truly fell in love with the game of basketball. Injuries cut my career short but finding myself bored, that’s how I became very interested in Crossfit. Everything technique caught my interest so now you’ll find me on competition platforms for Olympic weightlifting! Since becoming a stretch therapist my main focus the last couple years has been learning all I can to prevent and/or heal and strengthen injuries.

Fun facts : Ball is life : in junior high, at 12 I helped the team a year older than me become undefeated conference champions with a 22-0 record! The next year in 2003 i scored 36 points (my first game back from my first knee surgery) breaking the all time scoring record for males and females. 15 years and counting I still hold the record!
